Cytogenetics - Coursework Example Other Cytogenetic procedures remember Fluorescent for situ hybridization, Centromere or C-banding, replication banding, Sub-tiny telomere investigation, distamycin recoloring and Comparative Genomic Hybridization (1). Variations from the norm in chromosomes can likewise be distinguished by non-cytogenetic strategies, similar to that of Microarray examination and Molecular investigation of Telomeric groupings (1). Human numerical anomalies are presently estimated by the approach of cytogenetics, which incorporate Downs Syndrome, Turners condition and Klinefelters disorder. The development of sub-atomic cytogenetics began in 1980s with the approach of Fluorescent in-situ hybridization. Later than FISH, procedure of chromosome microdissection came in picture in which micromanipulation and assessment of chromosome was done. This strategy lead to concentrate in detail the abnormality in chromosomal structure that could be separated cloned and accordingly concentrated in considerably bette r detail. This strategy is additionally been put to clinical utilize like in determination of disease and in hematological malignancies where it is utilized to decide the chromosomal translocations in the threatening cells, therefore making the conclusion simpler and accordingly the treatment turns out to be progressively explicit. Essay on Globalization and Localization in International...
In the United States today it is very easy to see the influence of international companies and customs within everyday life. From cars to food, trade and investment from other countries is very important to the American economy. Likewise, American influences are important internationally as well. This aspect of the international economy is commonly called globalization. Globalization, as defined by James N. Rosenau in his article The Complexities and Contradictions of Globalization, simply describes the process under which norms, businesses, ideas, products, and other aspects particular to a certain country that are integrated into the everyday life of other countries around the world (Rosenau, World Politics 98/99, pp. 2). For example,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦According to a recent article in the Washington Post, the world has fallen under what is being called a global economic crisis. It started with the Asian Economic crisis, then spread to Japan and Russia. Now the United St ates and Europe are trying to prevent economic slowdown from spreading to their countries (Mufson, Economic Crisis Adds New Fears, Washington Post Online 5 Oct). As a result of lowering boundaries to allow international trade and monetary flow many nations, such as Japan and Russia, also open themselves up to economic disaster. If one country falls to economic crisis, it could cause a domino effect on every one else. This is where the idea of Localization comes into play. Unlike Globalization, Localization is a process that prevents the norms, businesses, ideas, products, and other aspects particular to a nation from filtrating into other nations. A nation practicing Localization also closes itself out from influences from other nations. One positive advantage to Localization is that it creates nationalism. In other words, it creates policies and practices that reflect that nation distinctively. Creating a strong sense of nationalism among peoples can also increase productivity and cash flow within that particular country. According to an October 2, 1998 article in the Washington Post, Russia is dealing with the decision of whether or not to turn to Localization. Employee Resource Management
Questions: Discuss the following points? Part 1. Job advertisement Part 2. Selection methods Answers: Introduction The assignment selects manager with regards to the managerial choice and the responsibility and the duty if the manager is known in an organization. The manager is one who acts like a chief officer in the management and looks for all of the operations that are carried upon. Here, manager is selected as the negotiator. Part 1. Job advertisement Job title. Manager as a negotiator Concise summary of the job role The advertisement deals with the manager who should act like a negotiator who negotiates with the people and not the companies, departments or the organizations. When one acts like a negotiating manager, it builds the interaction for workplace negotiations to carry successful building of beneficial relationship. Negotiation by the manager is to be made in a manner that will be the perception and this perception needs to be increased in the real time. Therefore, the job speaks of the negotiations capability. Concise summary of the knowledge, experience and the skills Svetlik (2004) says that the manager is one who holds responsibility for the department and the implementing processes. There is required the skills and knowledge like the good time management where the managers are expected to finish the work in the deadlines. They must look to the time management as the crucial thing. Interpersonal and relationship skills are most important for the development of the company. Managers must provide work with proper and appropriate training and thus, they need to be approachable, compassionate and possess good communication skills. Reward package The reward package for the manager is basically intrinsic rewards and this reward consists of personal achievement, sense of pleasure, accomplishment and professional growth. Intrinsic motivation offers personal interest and enjoyment in the work environment. It exists within an individual where an individual does not make create any dependence on others. An employee when rewarded by the superior officers in an organization is known as extrinsic rewards. This way, the company motivates its employees and it is vital for every organization. It increases performance of the organization and also it helps in retaining the employees for long term. This way, the reward package is designed in the organization for successful outcomes. Statement of equal opportunity The company clearly explains that nowhere the person in charge will have any kind of the inequality so; all will be having the equal opportunities. Part 2. Selection methods Chosen selection methods The two selection methods for eligibility of the chosen managerial role, manager as a negotiator are: Ability and aptitude tests Online screening and short listing Both the methods that are selected shows that when the selection will be made for the position of an manager as a negotiator then the foremost thing to be considered is the place where the mediations will be made by those making the recruitments. Dessler (2002) says that firstly, the ability and the aptitude test for the manager include - Verbal ability This will help in the process of knowing the verbal ability of the elected candidates and when the candidate will show his remarkable talent in the form of verbal ability, then it can be decided that he owns the best of it. Numeric ability: While making the selection of the candidate, one requires having the basic knowledge of the numerical ability. This test is basically designed to check what kind of the potential the candidate has for the good of the organization. General intelligence- The most important part of this selection method is that of the general intelligence. As it is known that, general intelligence is always tested with the different ways and when the manager has to work n the organization with the suitable manner, and then it is at most required to put up the same talent and intelligence. The general intelligence will cover all the part that is required to test the capability of the candidate. What really the recruiters will be looking though this test is that when the negotiations is to be made, the general awareness of the situations are necessary. Spatial ability: The spatial ability will also test the right thing for the candidate. Sensory and motor abilities: The process of the reflection of the thoughts will be carried in the manager role when he will be making the role play of the DECISIONAL ROLE. It is well recommended by the recruiter that the initial screening of the applications is made with the assessment of the candidates experience and also that of the qualifications that is all against the jobs requirements. Online systems are always available for the filter of the applications automatically. When there are the criteria through the different word searches then the online selection procedure will focus on the screening of the application that the number of the candidates will be short listed. There is also use of the online screening and that is linked to the fact that with it, there is useful way of the filtering through the huge volume of the applications when the numbers of the application will rise and it will be counted with it. For example, when the same post is applied for many reasons, there will be the same reference number. This approach shows that all the applications are received online and with it there will be the use for the internet as the tool. It may be sometimes very difficult that when the key words in the search is made used then they should not overlook the applications and it would also get the match with the person specifications. Some of the organizations also use this approach and they have to make the use of the long application and in order to ensure that the candidate has given all the appropriate information; the applications are to be searched through the word search. Possible challenges associated with selection methods Aswathappa (2001) says that the aptitude test is the natural abilities and it makes one to learn about the sort of the activities with the quick manner. One is always familiar with the aptitudes and candidates might have heard about the gifted artists, politicians and musicians. A great many people are not sure of their abilities and when the aptitude test is made then the main thing that is to be noted down that altitude test may be the helpful guide. With this, aptitude, it is expected by the recruiters that there will be shown the ability test in the right direction. The people are not always aware of their innate talent that resides in them. With these, it cannot be said that aptitude test will be fruitful. It is sometimes, that one who is among the appearance in the examination performs better when one is outside and it is sometimes, one will be able to give the best in the exam scoring such a high grades and the marks but with the suitability of the position, likewise in this c ase when the role is offered of the manger is that they have to make the negotiations, but what if the attitude test is cleared but the candidate is not able to make the verbal and the communication possible. The test is designed to pick out the best candidate. The person or the candidate who appear for the exams will have to look for the right direction. In this way, it is not necessary that the aptitude test will finally give the right candidate. For this purpose, there is always said to apply for other kind of tests. The online screening is other way where the students are required to focus on the online questions and the applications are selected on the same basis. With this way, the candidate is selected. But here the challenge that is faced by the organization is online sequence and the selections of the applications will not make the process as easy as it is expected. There is higher kind of expectations from the candidate and thus, the candidate will look for the good questi ons but the answers merely through online will be able to help if the candidate is not sure. Therefore, with the above process, the logical sequence and other processes are included. Implement the selection methods effectively There are many other procedures that could be implemented with the selection methods and could make it more effective. Likewise, in the aptitude test, one can also include the general awareness such as information based methods. In the online screening, the number of the questions that are asked might reduce or increase as per the need of the time. Also, when the examination is made, then the recruiters should focus on proper attention in regard to the fact that the online screening test must put up the logical questions and the selections are made on the process, therefore, it is required that there should have numbers of questions in the way, it could follow in the simpler form. With all these methods, time frame could create improvements. Conclusion Ghosh (2005) says that to recommend on selection, recruiting is not an easy task. The recruiters have to study the entire bio data and for this purpose, the most important thing that is considered is they have to plan the way by which the candidates will be elected. There is also the probability to see how much efforts are being given by the person and how the candidate will appear in the paper. The exams are thus comprises with various methods. Here in this assignment, basically the two important approaches and methods have been discussed to select the candidates. The candidates require going through this examination and with every stage, candidate is required to pass the exams. The two selection methods are aptitude test and online screening. Both the ways are good to test the ability of the candidate. The candidate is required to pass these exams. It is commonly found that the patterns for the exams are kept in the manner that will help to serve the need of the exam. The exams are thus to be carried with full concentration. Therefore, the exams when are conducted are performed well by the candidates and they are selected. The online screening test looks to the online application forms. Now a day, it is observed that most of the recruiters look for the selection of the candidates through the kind of the examinations that will enhance the skills of the candidates. In this way, the both selected methods will help to get the good and right candidates. Thus, to conclude, it is said that there are different challenges faced by HRM at the time of selecting the candidates such as negotiations and other ethical issues that can be resolved with the implementation of logical questions and negotiations can be resolved with the convincing approach. Aztec Indains Essays - Aztec Society, Aztec, Tenochtitlan
Aztec Indains Essays - Aztec Society, Aztec, Tenochtitlan Aztec Indains The Aztec Indians, who are known for their domination of southern and central Mexico, ruled between the 14th and 16th centuries. They built a great empire and developed very modernized ways of doing things. They had phenomenal architectural skills and waterway systems. The Aztec Indians also had very developed social class and government systems and practiced a form of religion. To begin with, the Aztecs were very skilled in the art of Architecture and waterway systems. An example of the monumental architecture within the Aztec society is the great pyramid of Tenochtitlan. Montezuma I, who was the ruler of the Aztecs in 1466, created it. The pyramid was not finished until the rule of Montezuma II, around 1508(Carrasco, Montezuma Mexico, Pg. 49). Aztec cities and towns also had working drinking water and waste treatment systems. An intricate plumbing system using clay pipes ran down from the mountains around Mexico valley to all of the towns and cities in the valley. As the water ran into each town or city it was the dispersed to 10 or 12 places around town were it flowed into a pool for drinking water or was piped into public baths and toilets. Only nobles had working drinking and bathing systems with running water in their homes. The sewage system worked much like today, having human wastes carried to a collection pool where solids were collected, and then having liquids run off into a series of terraces which filtered the water. Solid wastes were allowed to sit in a collection pool for about six months and then were brought to the lake gardens to be used as fertilizer(Jennings, Aztec, Pg. 220). The Aztec social structure contained four well defined classes. At the bottom of the heap were slaves and serfs, or the Tlacotli, who worked the private lands of the nobility. Next came the Macehualtin, the fortunate, as they were called because they were equally free of the heavy responsibility of the nobility and of the slaves liability to being basely used. They were the merchants, shopkeepers and artisans that made up the bulk of the population. The Macehualtin belonged to localized kin groups known as calpulli or big houses, each of which had its own lands, clan leaders, and temple(Jennings, Aztec, Pg. 354). After that came the hereditary nobility or Pipiltin, who supplied the top bureaucrats in the Aztec imperial system, and from whose ranks was a formed a council which advised the emperor and elected his successor from the ruling lineage. Also all of the nobility had the sound ztin added to the end of their name. At the very top of the ladder was the Uey-Tlatoani, or revered s peaker. He had absolute control over civil affairs and it was his job to increase the size of the Aztec Empire every year and if he didn't wage enough wars within a period of time he would be impeached and replaced by the Pipiltin(Oliphant, Atlas of the Ancient World. Pg. 268). The Aztec government consisted of principally of the leadership of the royal house and the vast bureaucracy backed by it. The Uey-Tlatoani dealed mainly with external affairs of the Aztec empire, such as starting wars and making peace treaties. Also there was a parallel ruler, another member of the royal lineage, known as the Cihuacoatl. He dealt mainly with the internal affairs of Tenochtitlan such as the water system and the justice system. The bureaucracy was set into place by the nobles and performed the same function that civil servants perform today(Oliphant, Atlas of the Ancient World, 195). To maintain the empire the Aztec government made the territories it conquered contributes twice yearly. Taxes were collected from the territories also and careful accounts were kept of what territories had to pay. The heavy taxation and forced tribute disgruntled many territories. When Hernando Cortez arrived in the early 1500's they were happy to help him as spies and informants(Blacker, Cortez and The Aztec Conquest, 143). Aztec religion was based on the worship of many gods, but the most important was the sun god. Aztec priests were not allowed to bathe or wash ever during their time as a priest. This resulted in the priests becoming

Port Authority Transit Corporation Strike Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Port Authority Transit Corporation Strike - Essay Example Before being getting the job, these workers knew that the job was critical for many lives depended on them. Ã Apart from being aware of how demanding the job is, they also knew that they were working under the US federal government thus; it was against the law for them to go on strike (Northrup, 1984). Ã Since these employees defied the law and went ahead with the strike, it, therefore, implies that they also went against the president of the US. This is because the employees worked under the federal government managed by the president. Ã Hence, in my opinion, this strike was not ethical. Ã Ã Was it ethically acceptable for President Reagan to fire the striking air traffic controllers? Ã In my opinion, firing the air traffic controllers was an ethical thing to do. This is because not only did they put the lives of many citizens in danger but they also went against the president. One reason why the air controllers went on strike is that they had the perception that they we re highly dependable and by going on strike they thought that they would receive attention (McCartin, 2011). Ã The other reason why I believe President Reagan's decision to sack the controllers is because they declined his humble request that they return to work. By refusing to return to work, these workers went against the president hence giving him no other choice but to fire all of them before hiring retirees and military controllers to take over the jobs left vacant (Northrup, 1984).

Citibank IN New Countries for Futures Markets Development Essay
Citibank IN New Countries for Futures Markets Development - Essay Example Furthermore, the projected customer base also determines the market entry approach that best fits that target market. In the case of Chile, the country illustrates an ideal market size approximated at 17.4 million citizens, and with the main degree of economic freedom. In this regard, the best market entry approach for Chile is the improvement of customer engagement and satisfaction through more relevant ad timely communications. This is mainly because of the large projected customer base that in turn requires for additional attention. The real-time relationship between the customers and the bank backed by the timely communications offers in-depth customer insights through each interaction point (Czinkota 512). The turning of customerââ¬â¢s insights into automated and operational brilliance further paves way for the new banking service in Chile thus leading to realization of higher profits. This approach also suits Chile as it incorporates the research evidencing the deficiency of banks to provide value to their customers. Countering this pre-existent condition, this approach enhances the customerââ¬â¢s records using key insights such as their lifestyle and banking behavior. As a result, there exists a more relevant and effective distribution of value to all segments of the customer base. Subsequently, factors such as high ranking in World Bankââ¬â¢s income groups of 2012 and lower middle economy characterize Bolivia. Furthermore, the similarity between Bolivia and Chile as illustrated by the cultural dimensions calls for an entering approach that depicts slow customer attrition while building stronger relationships (Carlton 252). This approach ensures minimal dissatisfaction of customers thus preventing loss of established customer bases to competitors. Through creation of early warning systems, this approach identifies the customersââ¬â¢ turning points prior to their occurrence thus providing a chance to address the customers at risk. In other wor ds, this approach ensures continuous productivity through active implementation of retention measures through shaping the services according to the customerââ¬â¢s preferences. On the other hand, Slovenia illustrates a collective society whose members exchange adherence and loyalty. With a reduced market size, Slovenia calls for a real time customer growth initiative. This approach propels take cross-sell and up-sell to new heights by triggering the target marketââ¬â¢s readiness to open new accounts and enjoy the services offered. Through development of cross-sell and up-sell programs, identification of customerââ¬â¢s readiness to create, change or start utilizing on-line services becomes predictable. As a result, the bank gains control over the sale of certain products and services through studying customer behavior. Foreign direct investment actively participates to the growth of global business through provision of new markets and applicable marketing channels (Graham & S paulding 1). Furthermore, it contributes to provision of cheaper production facilities in a country like Chile where the population is relevantly high. Furthermore, licensing accrues for significantly higher returns through engagement into relatively risky markets such as Bolivia. Following to extreme competition, foreign direct investment facilitates provision and effective utilization of new technology, products and skills. On the other hand, these aspects aid the development of a strong forward

Psychology - Aggression Notes Essay Example for Free
Psychology Aggression Notes Essay Evaluate explanations of institutional aggression (16 marks) Strengths In Irwin and Cressey (1962) study they donââ¬â¢t look at inmates having one value. They look at the subcultures within prison. This shows the nature of the inmates as well as how they were brought up and accept other values. This is also supported by Blomberg Lucken (2000) study on inmates. However you could counter this point by saying its reductionist because it reduces down behaviour to measurable units. Weaknesses Clemmer (1940) or McKorkle and Korn (1954) tend to suggest than inmates imported one holistic criminal subculture into the institution. By taking this holistic approach they are ignoring the biological approach. The importation model fails to provide suggestions for how to manage aggressive prisoners. Suggesting that you can manage prisoners and go against their freewill. Though they may be aggressive it might be because of how they were nurtured. Delisi (2004), it is unethical to give away possible private records. This could be seen as a breach of data protection. This can be linked to Issue and Debates. Especially the ethics and the confidentiality. AO3 ââ¬â 4 marks ââ¬â how science works: Methodological issues (internal validity, ecological validity, population validity, reliability) Bias (cultural bias, gender bias) Debates (nature/nurture, free will/determinism, reductionism/holism) Approaches (psychodynamic, cognitive, evolutionary, biological, behavioural) ethics A good psychology essay Be Selective In the exam you will only have 30 minutes per essay so you wont be able to write the same amount you do at home, therefore it is important to make a few points and evaluate them well (possibly by using opposing points) rather than make loads of points and rush the evaluation. You do not have to mention everything in the book in order to get a good mark, its all about quality, so just make sure that if you say something, and it is relevant and well said. Use Evidence If you make a point, it is useful to have evidence from studies/experiments to back it up. You dont have to go crazy with the methodology of these studies (but a little wont hurt) but the most important thing is to state how the research supports/ does not support the theory in question. It may feel like youre stating the obvious, but this is what gains marks. Use Issues and Debates Determinism, Reductionism, Gender Bias (Alpha and Beta), Culture Bias, Socially Sensitive Research/Theory, Reliability and Validity, just to name a few! They arent too difficult to work into your essay, but it is important you explain what each one means and how it relates to the theory in question. You wont gain many marks if you list them without explaining them thoroughly. Be Synoptic This is really important. Could an idea be better explained by another approach? Has research in this area lead to any practical applications? (Such as treatments for psychological disorders) This will show your understanding of psychology in greater detail, and how it is important in real life. Look at the Bigger Picture Does this theory/research raise or lower the reputation of psychology as a science? E.g.: does it rely on scientific testing or is it speculative? Have other studies produced similar findings or do other studies tend to contradict its findings? Dont be completely negative! Make some positive evaluations too, and when you criticise studies, you can always suggest ways in which they could be improved. You are expected to show a holistic view of psychology, and that means appreciating that there are both strengths and weaknesses to studies and theories. Look at your watch Remember; you dont have much time to write your essays in the real exam, so try to stick to 30 minutes per essay. Youll lose more marks by spending too long on one essay and not enough on another, than by writing all essays, but leaving a few points out. When Revising I find writing detailed essay plans helps, including notes on how I would evaluate. These would be far easier to memorise than whole essays, although writing practice essays may be beneficial too as it gets you used to time conditions. If you feel yourself getting stressed, or you are having a mental block, take a break- it is a sign youre working too hard! The best thing for this is to get a drink (definitely keep fluid levels up!) get a little bit of fresh air, and take some time to clear your mind. Even if it feels like your revision isnt getting you anywhere, it will be, so dont panic too much! Reality is a painful thing Its more than likely that you wont be able to remember every minute detail, or remember everything you want to say in the exam, but dont let this worry you too much- just make sure the points you do make are really well explained.

The Hidden Meaning of Robert Frosts Mending Wall :: Mending Wall Essays
The Hidden Meaningà of Robert Frost's Mending Wallà "Mending Wall" is a poem written by the poet Robert Frost. The poem describes two neighbors who repair a fence between their estates. It is, however, obvious that this situation is a metaphor for the relationship between two people. The wall is the manifestation of the emotional barricade that separates them. In this situation the "I" voice wants to tear down this barricade while his "neighbor" wants to keep it. "Neighbor" is here a metaphor for two people who are emotionally close to each other. "Good fences make good neighbors", is a line the author emphasizes by using it two times. The "neighbor" says the line while the main character does not agree with it. He can not see that there is something between them they need to be "walling in or walling out". The "I"-voice sees himself as a good spirited person. He is obviously worried because a person he cares about is shutting him out. He thinks that his "neighbor" is of a dark disposition. "He is all pine and I am apple orchard", the poem says. Pine is a dark tree while apple trees have white flowers. In "Mending Wall" the main character finds gaps in the fence. I believe the emotions between the characters make these gaps. He informs the neighbor and together they repair the fence with boulders. When they meet they argue or have communication problems. This is why they manage to repair the barricade between them. However, I would say that their emotions, especially the main characterââ¬â¢s, try to get the boulders off balance so the wall can be leveled with the ground. The balancing of boulders is a symbol of their meetings; "We have to use a spell to make them balance". "We wear our fingers rough", the author writes about the handling of the boulders. One may interpret this to signify that the meetings between these two "neighbors" are very hard on them. This is a long one-stanza narrative poem. All the lines have five stresses and are written in iambic pentameter or blank verse, which was also Shakespeare's chosen meter in his plays.

Archetype ââ¬ÅCinderellaââ¬Â and ââ¬ÅRough-Faced Girlââ¬Â Comparison Essay
Throughout Native American culture, they have always used everything and not waste anything. For example if they hunt a buffalo, the Indians make sure everything from the buffalo is used. They use the skin for clothing, bones for tools, and meat for food. Everyone is equal except the wise old men and the shaman. Native Americans use the nature to guide them through the day. They know the meaning of respect and never rebelled against authority. Indians never cared how their clothing looks to their peers; they always wore what was given to them. The American culture of the 1950s is the exact opposite of the Native Americans. The years after World War Two were generally prosper and stable for the middle-class Caucasian. The United States manage to turn the post war into a consumers culture with a snap of a finger. During immediate boom of consumerism, suburbs, and economy it overshadowed the some poverty. This rising prosperity didnt apply to everyone. During this time everyone was obsessed with consumer goods such as automobiles, television, stereos, dishwasher, etc. There was subculture of greasers that originated in the 1950s. They tend to own expensive classical hot rod and motorcycles. Greasers tend to be very conscious about their appearance. They wear leather jackets and comb back their hair with an abundance of hair wax. Rock and roll is the music of choice for Greasers. These two comparisons are very similar to Cinderella and the Rough-Faced Girl. There are major differences between the Disneys Cinderella and the Rough-Faced Girl. In the Rough-Face Girl, it describes his society and its surrounding with a prominence on Nature, not on affluence by possessions. Pictures of the sun, moon, stars, plants, trees, and animals are painted in the wigwams showing what the Invisible Being finds significant in his village. The Disney version everyone is consumed with wearing the extravagant dresses and jewelry. The fairy godmother did her magic and changed her tattered clothes into an elegant dress. Oochigeaskw is brave when she walked into the wilderness and made clothes from the accessories of the forest. Every girl that wanted to marry the Invisible Being wore pleasant clothes to impress his sister. The sister of the Invisible Being was too smart for that. She wanted someone that can see past the clothes and appreciate themselves. A carriage was created from a pumpkin by the godmother. It was made to takeà Cinderella to the princes Ball. However, Oochigeaskw had to walk for miles to get to the Invisible mans cabin. In the Disneys version of Cinderella, the prince was intrigued by the glass slipper and went looking for the person that fits it. There was no such thing in the Rough-Faced Girl because it dealt with knowledge one possesses. Disneys version of Cinderella is related to the developed nations society because people base their decision for a companion with exaggerated expectations. Usually monarchies in Europe have this kind of attitude towards marriage. They want their children to marriage into another royal house to keep the power within their grasp. They frown upon the lower class. In England, the queen was obviously upset when Charles married Diana. She was a kindergarten teacher and from the lower class. The Rough-Faced Girl is related to countries that practice arrange marriages because it is about the well-being of the family than the artificial aspiration to live a better life. The Rough-Face Girl, Oochigeaskw saw the remarkable beauty of the earth and skies spreading unlike all the other villagers. This obviously shows how she also appreciates nature through the beautiful qualities. Oochigeaskw did not need any kind of magic such as the fairy godmother to ask the Invisible Being to wed her. In this particular tale, the assessment of knowledge is based on the wisdom of the Invisible Being. The Invisible Beings sister tests the women by asking three questions about the Invisible Being. The subject of these questions is essential because it shows his values based on wisdom rather than superficial looks. The first question is to see if the women are honest. The two sisters of Oochigeaskw lied to the Invisible Beings sister when she asked them ââ¬Å"Do you see him?â⬠Oochigeaskw tells the sister the truth by saying I do indeed. Then the sister of the Invisible Being asks what is his sled-string? Oochigeaskw said it is the rainbow. Finally the last questio n was what is his bow-string? It is the Spirits Road-the Milky way answered Oochigeaskw. The essence of these questions and their related answers are based on Nature. The individual must be intelligent and have the wisdom to appreciate the earth as a gift without taking advantage of it. This was a reasonable test based on what is inside the heart of the individual to see if she is good by the natures results. The sister of the Invisible Being is a decent moderator this because she hadà to go through many women to find her brother a wife. She judged the women on their wisdom to see inner beauty and not the exterior of the person. Basically the Invisible Being uses his judgment to choose his mate by not using beauty. It continues as Oochigeaskw takes a bath in the lake and transforms back to her old self knowing that she will get married to the one and only Invisible Being. That change and recognition of her beauty is only stressed after the test and not before. The marriage between Oochigeaskw and Invisible being is based on her inner beauty and wisdom. However, in the Disney version of Cinderella illustrates how beauty depends on the exterior. For example, Cinderella is much more beautiful than her stepsisters. The prince judges beauty on the size of a womans foot. There is always the fairy godmother to make everything pleasing to the eye. The United States society has a hard time seeing people for their uniqueness; however we prefer if everyone was bundle together by similar quality. These standards are not only normal, but enviable by most people. Personality and intelligence is overridden by beauty in the tale. That is another example of the way society has portrayed women. The Native American is more intelligent than what that Europeans and other settlers think. When the European came to the US and started to destroy the natural goodness of their surroundings the Native Americans knew there will be trouble in the future. For example in the Gulf Coast, people got rid of wetlands and built houses. That ruined the natural barrier to guard against the weather such as a hurricane. Now you have seen the differences between Native American culture and the American Culture.

Do We Control The Media Control Us - 889 Words
Akossiwa Togbe Dr. Laura Long English 111 27 August 2014 Do we Control the Media or Does the Media Control Us? Imagine how surveys came into play. Imagine a group of people wanting to know what another group of people think, feel, want and desire. A survey came to be a way to meet the needs of others at a much more efficient way. Imagine mass media as a way to meet the needs and desires of the mass. It is a survey taken every time the remote is used. Whatever catches the attention of the mass is what the media produces quantities of and whatever the mass rejects is cut off, like a useless arm. The media misrepresents class in America with its glittering view of what class in America truly resembles. From movies to political figures, class is misrepresented through propaganda and the use of pathos, ethos and logos to appeal to the mass. Superficial sacrifices and obsessive desires of the wealthy to remain in power is a recurring theme in the media. Before the media came into play, class has been represented in varies ways in the United States, but to this day the class system is superficially the same. It remains: upper class, middle class/working class, and lower class. In the United Sates the media depicts class as such: if you are wealthy then you are well clothed, well behaved and well educated. If you are middle class/working class then you are humble, hard working, and mannered. If you are lower class than you are represented as either dysfunctional, or drop out. Essay on American Imperialism in the Philippines - 3614 Words
In 1898, in an effort to free Cuba from the oppression of its Spanish colonizers, America captured the Philippines. This brought about questions of what America should do with the Philippines. Soon, controversy ensued both in the American political arena as well as among its citizens. Throughout its history, America had always been expansionistic, but it had always limited itself to the North American continent. Beginning in the mid-nineteenth century, however, there emerged a drive to expand outside of the continent. When America expanded to the Philippines, the policy it followed was a stark break from past forms of expansionism. Americans saw it as their divine mission to expand to spread democracy and Christianity (Henretta 360). A critical turning point in American expansion was when America first looked to Cuba. Relationship Between Games and Play
Question: Discuss about the Relationship Between Games and Play. Answer: In this essay, the relationship between play and games has been explored. Smart phone games and web based play are only considered in this assignment. The discussion of this essay will mainly revolve around one of the most popular smart phone games of all time Angry birds. Now a question may arise during the conduction of this assignment is that why games matter and why it is required to be taken seriously in academic context? The answer is that video game represents the single largest section of digital media. The estimated value of global video game industry is 81.5 billion (Tulloch, 2014). North America and Asia Pacific region hold the large percentage of the revenue. In future, video game industry can develop huge amount of job opportunity such as game designer, producer and AI programmer (Bogost, 2008). In addition video games also represent meaningful arena of research that represent business, media, culture and contemporary society. Now, before going into in-depth discussion related with the relationship between play and games, it is required to define these two concepts. According to Lund (2014), play can be conceptualized as the method in which people might start to think about their relationship to games. Liebe (2008) argued that play is something that changes in meaning whether it is done as children or adults. It changes with the change of abstraction, imagination and competition. Nielsen et al. (2008) mentioned that play is always related with games. However, Ang (2005) argued that play always remain significant as it helps to develop perception of people about games and gaming. In earlier years, two theorists Caillois and Huizinga had tried to combine the meaning of gaming and play in their definitional work. However with the increase of the diversification of games, it has become essential to distinguish between the two concepts of game and play. Before discussing about video games, it is required to answer the most general question: what is play. According to Brabazon (2016), play can be defined as a decoder that translates our understanding about race, power, gender, age and cultural values. However, many people have disagreed with this statement. According to Giddens (1964), play is just for entertainment. It is a way to escape a tough day. For this reason, the meaning of play has different meaning in childhood and in adulthood. Brabazon (2016) stated that, in childhood, play is a benevolent and happy verb. However, it is labelled as subjective behaviour in adulthood. In the context to describe the term play, it is required to mention about the contextual reading of two writers JohanHuizingaand RogerCaillois. JohanHuizingais considered as Godfather of the playing politics and gaming theory. He had developed the outline of the theory of play. According to Huizinga (1944), there are four major elements related with play. Play is voluntary, not serious, disinterested and limited. However, RogerCaillois had criticized Huizinga. Caillois (2001) argued that Huizingas definition about play is very limited. It provides a series of problems and difficulties to understand the concept of play. According to Caillois (2001) play has six major characteristics. 1) Play is free or not obligatory 2) it has its own time and space, separate from the daily routine of life 3) results of play is uncertain and cannot be predetermined 4) it is unproductive as it cannot build wealth 5) It governs by rules that every play must has to follow 6) It makes players believe in existence of virtual realities against real life. Now lets discuss about the concept of gaming. According to Juul (2010), six essential characteristics of games can be found. These characteristics are such as 1) fixed rules 2) valorization of result 3) variable outcome and 4) optional consequences. In addition, outcome of game is associated with 5) players and 6) players effort. The definition of games provided Juul accounts for the ambiguity in games and the relationship of the games with players. The six characteristics developed by Juul (2010), can offer great amount of flexibility to understand different forms of rules and play. Angry Bird for example can be considered along the range of games definition. Work of Juul had provided a clear context for the definitions of digital games to get full realization. However, despite of this great effort, the tension between games and play still exist. Liebe had criticized the concept of the magic circle developed by Juul. According to Liebe (2008), computer and mobile gaming can provide an entirely different playing experience that Juul was not able to address. Liebe (2008) argued that modern day computer and mobile gaming define and uphold the context for play so that players do not have to. Hence, due to the existence of exceptional space for play, players do not have to enter into magic circle. Rodriguez (2006) stated that rules are develop in game to guide players to complete a game in proper or traditional way. It is one of the major factors that can distinguish play from game. Salen and Zimmerman (2004) mentioned that play can be imaginative with no specific goal and objective in mind. While in games, goals and aims are regulated by rules. However, in modern day video gaming, braking rules, cheating and hacking have become an important part. Kucklich (2009) had mentioned that using cheat codes in mobile and computer games could outline the method to become productive. It has now become necessary part of the gaming industry as well. Now it is required to analyze one Smartphone game to evaluate the relationship between play and game. Angry Bird has been selected for this analysis. It is one of the most popular mobile games of all time. It is puzzle video game develop by Rovio Entertainment. The game was inspired majorly by a sketch of wingless bird. In December 2009, the game was first released on iOS and Maemo devices. Since 2009, more than 12 million copies of the game was sold through Goggle App store and Ios. It helped the company to develop the version of the game for other touch screen based Smartphones. Rules (game play) of the Angry birds game: In this smart phone game, players have to control a group of multi-colored birds that are trying to retrieve their stolen eggs from the groups of hungry green pigs (AngryBirds, 2017). The enemy pigs are sheltered by structures made of different materials such as wood and glass and stones. They look like the building blocks mad by children. Objective of the game is to eliminate all pigs in each level. In the game players are able to launch a limited set of bird with different socialites. Players have to target their birds to directly damage the pigs or their surroundings and structures so that it collapse on the pigs. Using the touch control system, players have to set the angle and force to launch these birds by pulling back the slingshot. Several objects like stones, TNT have been incorporated in the game to help players to complete the stage. In addition, power-ups can be used so that birds can reach far reaching pigs (AngryBirds, 2017). Players can use various types of birds in this game. They can be distinguished by their shape and color and they have different capabilities. In the early stages, players have to use the basic red birds. In later stages different other types of birds are available. Special abilities of these birds can be activated by players by tapping the touch screen while the birds are in air. For example, yellow birds can speed up in the direction of tapping. Blue bird can be divided into three small blue birds after tapping, black birds explode, white birds can drop eggs over the structure of pigs, green birds can boomerang back and pick birds can trap objects in bubble (AngryBirds, 2017). The pigs can also vary according to size. Small pigs are weaker and withstand low amount of damage. Some of them even were hats and armors to withstand more damage. In every stage, the type, quantity and sequence of throwing birds are predetermined by developers (effort of players). It is the task of players t o set proper strategy to launch the birds in best angle and force to destroy all pigs (vary according to players). Bonus is received for any unused birds. After completion of every stage, players receive one, two or three stars depending on the score received by players (different outcome). Players can try as many times as they want to complete a stage successfully to earn additional points for a stage. Due to its clever, challenging and addictive game play, the game Angry Bird has received positive review from both critics and users. Will Greenwald ofPC Magazine stated that, none other games are able to provide such satisfying touch screen control experience like angry birds do. For this reason Angry Bird is acclaimed as the top-selling paid application on Goggles App store in the year of 2010 (AngryBirds, 2017). From this analysis it can be concluded that play or game play has significant impact on the over quality of a game and experience of players. Additive game play of Angry birds indicates that it is able to attract mobile users to play this game again and again, even they fail to complete some stages due to high level of complexity.
